“Thank you everyone for joining us on such an exciting day for students here in Sault Ste. Marie.
It is a pleasure to be here today on behalf of the Honourable Paul Callandra, Minister of Education and the Province of Ontario to celebrate the grand opening and blessing of the newly renovated St. Kateri Outdoor Education Centre.
I would like to begin by recognizing the leadership of the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board, the dedicated educators and staff who help bring this space to life each day, and the many community partners whose support and vision made this project possible.
Today is about more than a building renovation. It is about investing in students, in learning, and in opportunities that extend beyond the classroom walls.
St. Kateri Outdoor Learning Centre is already such a special place for students to explore, learn and connect with the outdoors. With this investment, it’s only going to get better.
Our government has supported the investment of nearly $1.8 million to support major upgrades and improvements to the centre, including the construction of a new classroom space and additional washroom facilities as demand for the centre continues to grow.
This project expanded the building’s footprint and created more space for students and educators to take part in the valuable outdoor learning opportunities that St. Kateri is known for.
In addition to the new classroom space, this investment supports important upgrades throughout the facility, including accessibility improvements, LED lighting upgrades, HVAC improvements, electrical upgrades, and expanded septic system capacity.
St. Kateri Outdoor Learning Centre gives elementary and secondary students the opportunity to learn beyond the traditional classroom setting through hands-on experiences in the outdoors.
I’m excited to see the impact these upgrades will have for students, educators, and families in the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board Community.
Congratulations once again to everyone involved with this project. The Province of Ontario is honoured to be part of this important milestone, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact the renewed St. Kateri Outdoor Education Centre will continue to have across the region.
