Ivan Wheale – Certificate of Appreciation

It was an honour and privilege Saturday to spend time with a humble and incredible man Ivan Wheale.

Evidently very ill, Mr. Wheale still had a twinkle in his eye and shared with me that he’s had a full life and has no regrets.

I presented him a certificate of recognition from the Province and informed him of his nomination for the Queen Elizabeth ll Ontario Medal for Good Citizenship. An honour well deserved.

There was so much candor in our conversation I left there feeling I’d known him a long time and regretfully wish I had.

Mr. Wheale moved to Manitoulin in 1975 and over the years distinguished himself as an artist, benefactor and mentor. He has received numerous awards and accolades for his art work and his legacy in the world of art will live forever.

His art captures the beauty of the La Cloche Manitoulin and Sudbury area. Some of his works hang in Windsor Castle, England, The Parliament Building Ottawa and Provincial parliament Newfoundland.
