$24,500 OTF Grant from the Ontario Government sets Northern Trails Ski Club up for success

Manitouwadge, ON – On Thursday, representatives from the Northern Trails Ski Club (NTSC) invited MPP Bill Rosenberg to join them on a virtual meeting where they took some time to talk about the impact of their $24,500 Capital grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). The grant, awarded last summer, enabled NTSC to buy new cross-country ski grooming equipment that will have an impact on delivering on opportunities for recreational activities in the area for local residents and visitors.

“Congratulations to the Manitouwadge Northern Ski Trails on receiving an Ontario Trillium Foundation grant to purchase new trail grooming equipment,” said Bill Rosenberg, MPP for Algoma-Manitoulin. “This investment will help maintain and enhance the beautiful trails that so many in the community and beyond enjoy. I hope residents and visitors alike continue to take in the stunning scenery and outstanding trails in Manitouwadge for many years to come.”

The ski club purchased a new snow machine, groomer and trail drag which will help compliment the existing grooming equipment that is needed to maintain two separate trail systems. The ski club offers low cost skiing experience to adults, children, schools and seniors. A variety of free events are offered to encourage community members to get active, connect and enjoy the trails. And thanks to the Ontario government’s $24,500 grant through the Ontario Trillium Foundation, community members and those from neighbouring communities will be able to continue one of the north’s most treasured winter sports.

“The impact of this Ontario government grant for a small, rural community such as Manitouwadge is significant,” said Andrea Blakie, President of NTSC. “It’s essential for northern communities to have access to outdoor environments that encourage physical activity and this grant will enable the ski club to provide quality, groomed cross-country ski trails for years to come.”
